I know, I’m starting to get bad at blogging again. :/ I’m trying, really I am. I guess I feel like sometimes I don’t have anything worth writing about, or more like I don’t have anything people would like to read about. It all goes back to the major issue that’s even starting to effect my work – I get inside my own head and stop myself from doing a lot. I feel like it goes right along with depression. You feel like you’re worth nothing, so why are you even trying-  why are you even here. Just trying to work with it and figure out how to not listen to that voice.Continue reading

Finally Spring

The weather has finally made the turn to spring! I’m happy for it, but my allergies on the other hand…yeah. I have a zipper pouch in my work bag that’s full of allergy pills and I have to take at least a couple just while I’m at work. I work by the back door, which is where everyone goes out for smoke breaks and where the trucks come in. This means that door is used all day long and there’s a small area of trees behind us…so I’m dead by noon if I’m not taking anything.Continue reading

Another year, another trip to Chicago for C2E2! Thankfully the snow held off until Monday (04/09).

We go every year and are already making plans for next year. I’m already starting on my cosplay for next year – which will end up and be my Halloween costume for this year so I have time to fix any issues I have with it…I’m pretty sure I’m going to have issues with it. I’m excited for next year already, too! Continue reading

This isn’t going to be an exciting post, it’s just one of those “hey, I’m alive and this is what I’ve been doing” posts. Considering I’m doing this post, this also means pictures!

First off, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit is my current go to. When I only had Netflix they had a few seasons, but they were all newer seasons. Well we signed up for Hulu and they have ALL the seasons, including the current season. I love that they add new episodes weekly, but I seriously need them to stop so I can at least make it to the half way point. The good thing is, I have around 290 episodes left. That means I’ve watched over 100 so far. It’s just going to take me so long to get caught up.Continue reading

I am a movie junkie, it’s something I live with every day. It’s an addition. in the end though, we all love being able to escape our boring (or stressful) lives. Movies have always been my happy place, even as a child. I was bullied due to my size and my views on the world – movies didn’t judge me.

I’ve been working on this list for a week+ (13 days). No joke. Listing all of my favorites would take me hours & hours to do. So I tried to make this list as short as possible – and I tried to list lesser known films in hopes it’s something you may want to find. I know how hard it is to find a great film through asking for suggestions though – most of the time it’s just people saying popular films & films I have no interest in. Sorry, I’m not a fan of Harry Potter.

A lot of people know my love for all things horror, that’s the kind of film I grew up watching, but these films are from a few different genres. Also, these films are in no real order – just whatever order my computer put the pictures in. ^_^ I, on purpose, do not describe the films because I don’t want to ruin the films if you want to watch them. I hate when people ruin films for me.

The Incredible Shrinking Man (1957) – IMDB
I love sci-fi films from this time period. They are…incredible. I honestly just got into these films over the past few years. I think as with everything else in life our tastes for things change as we get older – when I was younger I hated these films. And yes, there’s a cat in the film!

A Clockwork Orange (1971) – IMDB
It’s no secret that I LOVE this book, and well I have an odd obsession with Malcolm McDowell. The first cosplay I put a lot of work into over the past few years is of Alex. I love everything about this film – and well Stanley Kurbrick is a god.

American Psycho (2000) – IMDB
Another film based on a book – which seems to be a fact not many people know. Before Christian Bale was Batman he was a bat shit crazy psychopath. To this date, this is my second favorite Christian Bale performance – my number 1 is on this list.

Carrie (1976) – IMDB
One of my childhood favorites! Okay, so it wasn’t released in my childhood but I remember watching it while I was younger. It’s not the first horror film I remember watching, but damn close to it. This film, as well as the book, gave those of us who were bullied someone to connect to – in an odd way. How many of us who were bullied would like to do what Carrie could do – damn near all of us!

Cat People (1942) – IMDB
One of the earliest films on my list. Also, a film that tells a story like this has to be on my list.

The Crow (1994) – IMDB
I honestly didn’t see this movie until I was well into my 20’s. I know, I’m late to some great things. I loved this film from the first time I watched it.

Eraserhead (1977) – IMDB
It took me so long to find a copy of this film, seriously I search out films. I was beyond excited when I finally found a copy to call my own. I’m in love with the filming style (hello, it’s David Lynch), costuming…just everything.

The Evil Dead (1981) – IMDB
Evil Dead II (1987) – IMDB
Army Of Darkness (1992) – IMDB
My cat is named Ash. Need I say more? Also, Bruce Campbell is AMAZING. I mean, I would put all of his films on this list…but that would just be silly.

The Detective (1968) – IMDB
Sinatra made a lot of films (as well as a lot of great music), but this has to be my favorite. I’ll take Sinatra the detective any day!

Friday The 13th films – Wikipedia
It’s no secret that Jason is my favorite killer. I know the films get so bad, but I can’t help it. I think it all goes back to Friday the 13th being the first horror film I remember seeing.

The Ghost and Mr. Chicken (1966) – IMDB
I credit my grandma for this film being one of my favorites. Anytime it was on TV we had to watch it. It’s a film I actually remember watching with my brothers and no one fighting. haha. It’s not a horror film, it’s a straight up comedy.

Goodfellas (1990) – IMDB
I can recite SO many lines from this film. There was a point in time when I watched it…A LOT. Even though I watched it to the point where some people would never want to see it again, I still watch it. I love a good mob story, and with a director & amazing actors – that just makes it even better.

Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers (1988) – IMDB
I love chainsaw movies! And cults are interesting! Add the two during the 1980’s in Hollywood and you have this films. Oh yeah, and ladies of the night.

Heavy Metal (1981) – IMDB
I think it may surprise some people to know how much I really enjoy this film.

Hellraiser Films – Wikipedia
Pinhead, it’s all about him. Clive Barker knew what he was doing when he first created Pinhead. (You should check out his books!)

Hook (1991) – IMDB
This is a childhood favorite I will never out grow..because I’ll never grow up.

The Human Centipede (First Sequence) (2009) – IMDB
The Human Centipede II (Full Sequence) (2011) – IMDB
The Human Centipede III (Final Sequence) (2015) – IMDB
Yes, I am a fan of these films and I’m not afraid to admit it. I just wish I knew someone who would watch them with me.

Insidious (2010) – IMDB
Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013) – IMDB
Insidious: Chapter 3 (2015) – IMDB
Insidious: The Last Key (2018) – IMDB
Two people: Patrick Wilson & Lin Shaye. I’ve loved them both in their own films and them together = amazing. Once I got hooked with the first film, I had dive into it head first. I miss finding films like that in general – films that sucked you in.

Antichrist (2009) – IMDB
Now I will say this, if you cannot handle scenes of gore – this film is not for you. It’s not horror gore though, and as I said before I don’t want to give a lot away. Well, if you can’t handle body mutilation, please do not watch this film. I have become a fan of Lars von Trier, he has such an eye for scenes you will never forget – for the good and bad. Again, this is a film with a lot of adult content.

The Money Pit (1986) – IMDB
This has to be my favorite Tom Hanks movies. As most of my films on this list, it has a tie to my childhood. I always watched this film with my mom.

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (1989) – IMDB
I’m sure everyone has their favorite holiday film that they have to watch every year, this is mine. I grew up watching it and still watch it the week of Christmas.

Night of the Living Dead (1968) – IMDB
When Romero passed away, all of us who love zombie films felt like our favorite uncle died. I credit him and this film for my love of zombies – well for my love of the classic zombie.

A Nightmare On Elm Street films – Wikipedia
There’s just something about Robert Englund that makes the character of Freddy really come to life.

Nymphomaniac: Vol. I (2013) – IMDB
Nymphomaniac: Vol. II (2013) – IMDB
Another film by Lars von Trier – well two if you break it up. I didn’t break it up, I watched it all at once. This film has strong adult content, just a warning.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) – IMDB
Who hasn’t seen this?!

Perfume: The Story of a Murderer (2006) – IMDB
I came across this film when movie rental places were still a thing. It was one of those films I would pick up at random to get an awesome deal on the movies I would spend the weekend watching. This is a beautiful film – the costumes are just complete beauty. The story is another reason to watch this film.

The Perfect Host (2010) – IMDB
I’m sure most of you know David Hyde Pierce from the TV show Frasier. He places a character far from what you’re used to in that show – and it works so well.

Popcorn (1991) – IMDB
Another film I had to search out before I was able to find my own copy. What can I say, I’m a sucker for these kind of films.

Raising Arizona (1987) – IMDB
I remembered bits of pieces of this film from childhood when I watched it as a teenager. It’s no secret that I enjoy Nic Cage movies – even the bad ones.

Rebel Without a Cause (1955) – IMDB
I LOVE this film – as many films of the 50’s. James Dean was one of kind.

Scanners (1981) – IMDB
David Cronenberg has made many amazing films, I have to say this one if my favorite. The explosion scene is one to remember for sure.

Silkwood (1983) – IMDB
This seems to be a film that’s lesser known. I didn’t know about it until I was talking about one film I loved and my aunt suggested I find this film.

Somewhere in Time (1980) – IMDB
I love Christopher Reeve. This is one of maybe three “romance” films I like.

Stigmata (1999) – IMDB
This film had my attention from the first scene.

Superman (1978) – IMDB
These Superman films with Christopher Reeve are the only Superman films I’ve ever seen.

Tank Girl (1995) – IMDB
Lori Petty perfectly brings Tank Girl alive. Tank Girl is the first cosplay I ever did and this film holds a special place in my heart. Also, Malcolm McDowell.

The Order (2003) – IMDB
This is my favorite Health Ledger film.

The Machinist (2004) – IMDB
Christian Bale is mesmerizing in this film.

The Three Faces of Eve (1957) – IMDB
I first remember watching this film in school, but it was only a couple clips. So I found the film on my own to watch the whole thing. Well worth it.

The Fog (1980) – IMDB
So, the remake of this I’ve never seen. I just enjoy the original version so much that I don’t want to ruin it.

The Stuff (1985) – IMDB
Larry Cohen has written so much great films. I know this one is just so far out there that it’s just funny to watch.

What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? (1962) – IMDB
Bette Davis & Joan Crawford two stars of golden Hollywood.

X: The Man with the X-Ray Eyes (1963) – IMDB
This is one of those sci-fi films I turned out loving when I was in the phase of finding more random movies.

When I was around 13, I came across a band called Anti-Flag. My introduction to punk rock. Fast forward and they’ve been playing for years, still touring and still putting out new music – and I’m still listening to them. Two of the band members recognize me due to them doing a side project years ago and me being one of the first ones to support them & go to shows – A friend (who I met through Anti-Flag’s fanbase – was also part of a project we were doing based on that band, general love within the community while supporting creativity. They’re all amazing guys and put on a hell of a show. I mean, I have the bruises to prove it. Sadly the drummer wasn’t at the show last night due to a death in his family, so their drum tech learned all the songs and did a great job. My thoughts are with Pat’s family.

Remember, I’m not even 5ft tall, so at any show I usually stand up front so I can at least see something. We got there early enough last night for me to get a place where I stood last time I seen Anti-Flag. Right in front of the bassist. He’s one of the two I mentioned before who remembers me. As any punk show, shit got crazy. The number one rule at a punk show – if someone falls down, pick them up. People were falling down, onto me. Which I’m used to at shows, I’m not a fragile flower. It didn’t help that there was this crazy, super drunk, lady beside us. She was like laying back on everyone and just killing this poor kid – who it looked like this was his first show. Not to mention she kept wanting to touch the bass – which was making me upset because she was just…ugh…super drunk. Anyways…After a few songs the bassist told me to sit on the front of the stage, which was fine with me. Sadly after one song I was moved more to the side of the stage. Either was, I was still able to enjoy the show and have fun.

Today though the pain of going through the show is setting in. Sore throat, bruises and feet pain.

The sore throat is kind of obvious. Screaming lyrics from an hour will have that effect on you, seriously. But in the end, it’s well worth it.

The stage at the Grog Shop is right at knee height for me. So anytime anyone behind me pushed me forward my knees were going right into the stage. There were also people who needed a tutorial on how to stage drive, one guy jumped too far back on the stage like right at us and ended up kicking me in the hip while he was trying to get to the crowd. My left knee was stuck against the stage at one point, as well as the last time people fell down toward me. My knee is bruising pretty bad for that, but the best thing is that I took today off – just for these reasons. But I have to walk to work tomorrow at 4:30am. Hopefully people have more snow moved and the snow that’s left is packed down enough that I don’t kill myself.

So as I sit here on my random day off, here’s some pictures and a few short clips from the show. I need to file my taxes now.

My first post on Cats And Cakes! Kind of scary, but excited at the same time.

I started blogging at my old domain – stupid-eyed.net – when I was around 18 years old. I’m 30 now, and a lot has changed. I thought it was time for my domain to catch up with me and go through a change as well. That’s where CatsAndCakes.Net comes in.

The name of my new site is simple – I’m a cat lady and I love baking. It’s totally me. I have to say I have a thank you to give to Christine for helping narrow down my choices. Once I had them narrowed down, I asked a few more people. Basically I took a poll to see which domain sounded more like me. Doing that works – but make sure all the ideas you’re using, you love. I had to stay away from using anything horror related in the name…I mean bloody cats…that sounds bad.

I’ve quietly spent the past few days building the site, narrowing down what things I want to keep, and getting ready to add more things. I know it’s kind of bare right now, but that will change in the coming weeks.

I’m rebuilding my recipes from scratch – just starting over with all the recipes I have. This should make my boyfriend happy because it means I’ll be cooking dinner every night during the week. This also means trying new things – which sometimes isn’t that great.

I’m still working on the travel main page, but I do have all the pictures uploaded. This also means I finally have all my Florida vacation pictures up! You can see my pictures from Animal Kingdom, Epcot and Universal Studios! I look forward to my next trip: Chicago E2E2 in April!

When it comes to posts on here, I’m going to have one day a month that’s a photo post. Meaning, I just blast you guys with pictures I’ve taken over the past month. It should be fun to do! I’ll also have one day that’s a movie day – pretty much the same idea as the photo post. This will leave me a lot of room to be able to post more personal things during the weeks. I have a list of ideas for posts I want to do and honestly I could sit down and write at least three posts today! That shows you how happy I am to start over with this new blog.

If you have my link on your sites, please update it! Don’t worry, this will be the only update of my link you’ll have to do for the next 10 years.

Now that I have all of the info about the new domain finished, I can talk a little about what’s been going on lately.

As I said before I’ve been cooking at least 4 nights a week. This month I already have the dishes wrote on our kitchen calendar. Tonight we’re going to have a quinoa bowl with roasted chickpeas. What can I say, food makes me happy. And I’m going to make two little berry cobblers to celebrate something – which I’ll get in to soon. This week we’ll be eating a lot of Mexican spiced foods. This is very unusual for me, but not for my boyfriends. He loves Mexican food. I’m already trying to get some ideas together for next weeks menu – one of them being soup because of the weather.

Do you have a suggestion for a recipe I should try?

The weather has been…annoying. Today from 4am to around 11am it snowed at least 3 inches – I’m sure it snowed more than that. I was at work – I got there at 4:30am. We were so dead I was watching people pull into the parking lot – the few people who came in. One car turned totally around because he was flying while he was trying to turn in. I was so worried he was going to hit the handicap parking sign. To my surprise, he didn’t hit anything. I left work a little after 11am and it took me nearly an hour to walk home – the walk usually takes me around a half hour. No was was out to shovel their sidewalks, so I was walking in snow that was up over my boots. When I got home and took my boots off there was snow stuck to my socks. We’re suppose to go to Cleveland tomorrow night for a concert and I’ve been watching to see if it gets canceled.

I finally have my permit! Yeah, I know I’m weird. I’m 30 and haven’t drove – but I’m working on it. So far I’ve drove the car once and it was at night. The road we live on isn’t really busy, but there are a few people who park on the road. I think I did pretty well. I’m so scared to drive in an area where I’ll be around other moving cars. That’s what scares me the most. I guess the good thing about trying to get all of this done around this time of year is the fact of filing taxes and having that money back when I need to buy a car. That’s the idea for my tax return – but since my insurance was cut off I have to use some of it to get an eye exam and new glasses.

As I mentioned before we’re celebrating something tonight! We’re celebrating the fact that I’ll be putting in my 2 weeks notice at work tomorrow morning!! I’ve been working at the same place since 2014. I moved up to become a shirt supervisor and turned down the offer to become an assistant manager. I’m leaving all of that – but I’m also leaving a restaurant manager who doesn’t pull his weight. On February 14th I’ll be going through orientation to become a prep cook for Fat Heads Brewery! I don’t know anything about beer and well I don’t like beer, but hey I like to cook! A few of you may know I’ve been trying to leave my current job and get into an actual kitchen. Well, I finally made it! I’m so excited to make this huge move. There are a few coworks I’m going to miss so much too, but I need to do this for myself. The chef I’ll be working with was a lot of fun to interview with and he was just so easy to talk to – I look forward to working with him.

I’m excited for this new chapter in my blogging life! So much is changing at the same time and it feels amazing!
